About me

I'm a machine learning and NLP enthousiast, but I also love making things for the web. In 2022 I acquired my MSc in Information Science from the University of Groningen and I am currently working as a teacher and researcher at the Hanze University in Groningen. In the last 5 years I have made various web apps, chatbots, games and websites. I have furthermore trained models to detect fake news, detect faulty cuts in steel plates, perform semantic tagging and analyze the sentiment of tweets on Twitter.

Bachelor Communication and Multimedia design at the Hanze University

09/2016 – 09/2020

With a major in interactive media and technologies this bachelor program taught me how to build nice looking interactive websites.

On a freelance basis I occasionally make websites that enhance people’s businesses. You can find some of them here.

Convident

09/2018 – 02/2019

During this internship I designed and maintained websites for large corporations as well as SMEs.

Atos

11/2019 – 08/2020

During this graduation project I made an interactive website that aims to help encourage people to cycle more. This project was done in collaboration with MyCity, which is the smart city initiative from Atos.

Information Science pre-master at the University of Groningen

09/2020 – 09/2021

This programme that I finished cum laude prepared me for the master degree that followed.

11-2021

My first publication contains work from my pre-master thesis about coreference resolution in Dutch literature. The publication is available here.

Information Science master at the University of Groningen

09/2021 – 12/2022

This masters degree focussed on natural language processing, machine learning and deep learning. My thesis was presented at the TABU DAG and nominated for the study’s best thesis award 2021-2022.

Master internship at the KTH in Stockholm

During my internship I developed an online game that lets people play a game against a language
model. This game is now used by researchers at the KTH as a data gathering tool.

Teacher and researcher

03/2023 – Now

At the Hanze University of Applied Sciences I am a teacher and researcher within the bachelor Industrial Engineering. Here I currently teach a course on data visualization with Python, coach students through a variety of projects and am part of a program focusing on implementing Industry 4.0 related technology into education.
